Interior Design BID

The Bachelor of Interior Design degree is a four-year course of study. This program prepares students with knowledge and skills that allow them to be eligible to sit for the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) certification examination. This degree includes academic studios, workshops, lectures, hands-on experiences, field trips, and opportunities for internships and domestic and international travel.

Electives


A minimum of 6 credits of electives at the undergraduate level. Electives must be selected from INT or ARCH courses. Selection of electives outside of school offerings requires the approval of the school faculty.

Maintaining Academic Standing


A grade of C- or higher is required in order to continue in the design studio sequence. A grade of less than C- requires a student to repeat that studio before advancing in the studio sequence. Faculty approval is required for any studio course to be repeated. (This includes ART 104INT 126INT 250, INT 255, INT 350, INT 355, INT 450, INT 455.)

Transfer Students


Transfer applicants who have no previous work in interior design or architecture must complete year one courses.

Advanced Standing. Transfer students from another interior design or architecture program may apply for advanced standing (entering the program at year two, three or four). Transfer students applying for advanced standing are required to submit both the university application and the School of Architecture & Interior Design application including required portfolio. Please contact the School for specific information.

Placement into the design sequence is made after the Admissions Committee has evaluated the student’s submissions.

Student Learning Outcomes


At the end of the program, students should be able to:

  • Evaluate the form, space and order of an interior environment.
  • Classify what constitutes quality interior design solutions, material selections and construction techniques.
  • Conduct project-centric design research and interpret information to provide a framework for designing quality interior spaces.
  • Utilize written, verbal and graphic presentation skills to thoughtfully communicate design.
  • Design interior spaces that reflect empathy, creative thinking and innovative problem solving.
  • Implement a finished design solution via processes such as construction, fabrication, installation or the ordering and expediting of goods.
