Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) MA

The Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) MA includes the extensive study of the English language and is particularly appropriate for those who plan to teach English to speakers of other languages or do further work in linguistics. This program will not lead to the TESOL endorsement for the state of Michigan without adding additional coursework included in the course program plan.
Delivery: This program is offered both on the main campus and in a synchronous interactive online format (See Global Campus definitions).

Students wishing to add a TESOL (ESL) endorsement to an existing state teaching credential must take the following courses in addition to the Core and Elective courses:
Admission Requirements
Prerequisites: Modern English Grammar and Linguistics (waived for students who enter our program through online graduate certificate program)
English language proficiency: A minimum of 575 on TOEFL PBT or equivalent for students for whom English is not their first language. This requirement is waived if the student received an undergraduate degree from an institiution where English is the medium of instruction.
