Computing BS

Computing is an extensive area of study with multiple areas of specialization. The Computing BS program prepares students to function as professionals. The student must choose one of the following concentrations: The Applied Computer Science concentration is a professionally focused area of Computer Science. The Cybersecurity concentration enables students to effectively protect various aspects of computer systems. Data Analytics is a focused concentration on the functional aspects of synthesizing actionable knowledge from a variety of data sources. Information Technology is concerned with the application of available hardware, software and other computer systems and associated components to support organizations.

Applied Computer Science Electives - 9


Choose 9 credits in consultation with academic advisor from CPTR courses.

Cybersecurity Electives - 9


Choose 9 credits in consultation with academic advisor from CPTR courses.

Data Analytics Electives - 9


Choose 9 credits in consultation with academic advisor from CPTR courses.

Information Technology Electives - 9


Choose 9 credits in consultation with academic advisor from CPTR or CBSC courses.

General Education (Andrews Core Experience)


Students must fulfill all Bachelor’s Degree requirements listed in the Andrews Core Experience .

Student Learning Outcomes


Applied Computer Science Concentration
Graduates of the Applied Computer Science concentration of Computing BS will possess the following abilities:

  • Design and develop different types of software applications using current software development best practices.
  • Analyze computing problems that can be solved using existing software, and select appropriate approaches, tools and methods to implement a software solution.
  • Effectively use data structures, algorithms, and data management systems in computer programs to store, manage, access, and process data.
  • Demonstrate understanding of capabilities, tradeoffs, and limitations of algorithms, programming languages, operating systems and other related computing technology.

Cybersecurity Concentration
Graduates of the Cybersecurity concentration of Computing BS will possess the following
abilities:

  • Analyze the cybersecurity exposure profile of an organization.
  • Develop effective cybersecurity plans for an organization.
  • Implement technical aspects of a cybersecurity solution, including planning, management, and incident mitigation.

Data Analytics Concentration
Graduates of the Data Analytics concentration of Computing BS will possess the following
abilities:

  • Manage data ingestion tasks, such as collection, cleaning, and transfer, from different sources into an accessible system for analysis.
  • Demonstrate understanding of issues and solutions for storing, managing, and analyzing data sets.
  • Apply current methods to understand, visualize, identify, and communicate trends in data.
  • Use appropriate tools, algorithms, and mathematical models to perform desired analysis, with consideration of related limitations.

Information Technology Concentration
Graduates of the Information Technology concentration of Computing BS will possess the
following abilities:

  • Analyze the computing needs of an organization.
  • Design a computing technology solution consisting of computer software and hardware to satisfy the relevant identified organization technology needs and goals, ranging in scope from limited in technology and organizational unit application, to comprehensive.
  • Implement a designed or planned computing technology solution with the identified computer software and hardware, including deployment and management of the solution.
