Emergency Management Certificate
|
|
The Emergency Management Certificate provides students at the undergraduate level with an all hazards approach to emergency preparedness, utilizing the core tenets of emergency management: preparedness, prevention, response, recovery, and mitigation. Students develop an understanding of preparing for emergencies, management of operations during an event, principles and methods of incident management, implementation of recovery efforts, and the after action assessment process. Additionally, students will develop an understanding of ethical decision making, critical thinking, analytical inquiry, strategic planning, risk and vulnerability assessments, and collaboration with stakeholders.
Delivery: This program is offered both on-campus and in an interactive online asynchronous format (see Global Campus Definitions). This online degree does not require any on-campus time.

Student Learning Outcomes
At the end of the program a student will be able to: - Explain the basic philosophy and concepts of Emergency Preparedness (SOCI408)
- Understand and describe the emergency planning process including development, dissemination, implementation, and credentialing (SOCI445)
- Explain the phases and operations of disaster response and recovery (SOCI449)
- Identify and develop plans to mitigate hazards at various community levels (SOCI478)
