Integrated Science Education (Grades 5-9/7-12)

The current Secondary Education Program is still in place this year for English and Social Studies (History). However, beginning in the Fall of 2025, students will be advised to meet the new program requirements within the grade bands developed by the State of Michigan Department of Education within the content area of Mathematics and Science. The Mathematics and Science programs have been submitted for approval to the State of Michigan; the other content areas are expected to be submitted for approval within the next calendar year. Teacher candidates will choose a grade band of either 5–9 or 7–12 as their major with an additional endorsement. At the completion of the program, students will acquire certification in 5–12 when meeting all the state requirements. Currently, the NAD requirements have not changed at the secondary education level within the Teacher Education Program.

The secondary programs of English and Social Studies (History) are available only as second majors. They are designed to be taken in conjunction with a content major and a minor, or with two content minors. The current Secondary Education programs in K-12 foreign languages, Music Education, and Visual Arts Education are still in place while the State of Michigan updates the standards in each of these content areas.
