Doctor of Education (EdD)
As the more professionally-oriented degree, the Doctor of Education (EdD) is designed for educational leaders who contribute to the field of education through their work in the field, developing curricula, supervising, and leading out in instructional improvement and school change. Dissertation research for the EdD is typically practitioner-focused and addresses a topic of practical concern within the concentration area. The program requires 61 post-MA semester credits.
Program Delivery
The Doctor of Education in Curriculum and Instruction is offered in a synchronous, interactive online program (see School of Distance Education definitions) and a face-to-face on-campus program. Online courses are not self-paced, but have regular semester start and end dates. Participants interact with each other, their traditional classroom peers, and the instructor throughout all courses. Online students are required to come to campus for defense of their dissertations. Online students are encouraged to come to campus for graduation

Master’s Degree in an appropriate area
EdD Curriculum Theory Concentration: 21+ credits
EdD Foundations: 0 credits
Foundations requirement are included in the concentration.
EdD Dissertation: 17 credits
Total EdD Degree Credits: 61
EdD Higher Education Teaching Concentration
Available On-Campus or Online
EdD Prerequisites: 5-6 credits
Master’s Degree or higher in a field typically taught in colleges or universities
EdD Higher Education Teaching Concentration: 16+ credits
EdD Foundations: 4+ credits
Select two of the following:
EdD Dissertation: 17 credits
Total EdD Degree Credits: 61
*Disseratation must focus on a topic in the concentration area. After registering for EDRM880/LEAD880, canidates must register for at least one (1) dissertation credit each semester until they successfully defend their dissertation.
EdD International Education Concentration
Available On-Campus
EdD Prerequisites: 5-6 credits
Master’s Degree in an appropriate area
EdD International Education Concentration: 16+ credits
EdD Foundations: 3+ credits
Select two of the following:
